The LSU Club Volleyball team isn’t the most popular on campus, but these students still compete at a high level in various tournaments throughout the Southeast each semester.

The LSU Club Volleyball Team does not compete at the NCAA level, but they still square off against other colleges throughout the South.
Tricia Greenwalt, Volleyball Club President, said that most players have volleyball backgrounds and enjoy still being able to compete at a higher level. “I know a lot of girls played in high school throughout their careers,” said Greenwalt. “And they may be interested in club because it’s a little more competitive.”
However, other players, such as Zach Bienvenu, simply enjoy being able to remain active in the sport. “We played outdoor volleyball,” Bienvenu said. “So this was new to me my freshman year, but it’s become a lot of fun and I’ve gotten better.”
Greenwalt said the thing that sets them apart from LSU’s NCAA team is their funding. She said the team must meet withstudent government each semester to request funding for tournament play. Greenwalt said the money allotted to them only covers about 35 percent of the team’s expenses. The rest of the money comes from the team members’ $75 club dues that they pay each year and donations from parents or independent companies.
“If we were more competitive, we would get more support from the rec,” said Greenwalt. “But it’s just really hard building up a program.”
